Purpose

NMR uses differences in the electronic and magnetic environment around isotopes with non-zero nuclear spin to infer and deduce information regarding the chemical structure of molecules and their environment. The predominant use is to determine organic structures using hydrogen and carbon-13 spectroscopy, although there are many nuclei with an NMR active isotope that can generate useful information.
